The Mobile World Congress witnessed a slew of smartphone, tablet and accessory launches with the likes of Sony, Samsung and Nokia being in the spotlight. Apart from the mainstream announcements, the event was also home to some unique products.

Russian manufacturer Yota devices came into prominence when it launched the Yota phone in December 2013. The phone had a second e-ink display at the back to show messaging, news and social network notifications, however, it was not touch sensitive.
The company showcased the second-generation version of the phone with a better, fully touch-sensitive 4.7-inch e-ink panel. The YotaPhone 2 sports a 5-inch Full-HD AMOLED front display panel and is powered by a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor.
The e-ink display still doesn’t support all Android apps but Yota has bundled a good number of productivity and communication apps that work. The phone launches later this year.

Geeksphone Blackphone
From the house of Spanish smartphone startup, Geeksphone, the Blackphone is a privacy focused smartphone runs a custom version of Android created by Silent Circle.
It makes voice calls secure, encrypts text messages, and stores data securely, in addition to allowing users to access the web anonymously via VPN.
The phone sports a 4.7-inch HD screen, and is powered by a 2GHz quad-core processor and 2GB RAM. It features an 8MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front-facing camera.

Boeing Black
The communications arm of the aerospace and defense contractor Boeing, unveiled the Black smartphone that self-destructs and deletes all stored data if tampered with, in addition to encrypting all calls.
It can be configured to connect with biometric sensors or satellites. The Boeing Black phone is targeted at government agencies and contractors that exchange sensitive information.
The dual-sim phone sports a 5.2-inch display and is powered by a 1.2GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor. It runs Android.

Oral-B Smartseries toothbrush
Oral-B launched a Bluetooth 4.0 enabled toothbrush that connects to an Android or iOS device through an app to track how users brush and recommend a better way of brushing their teeth.
It can detect specific dental problems and recommend new patterns and speed of the brush head. The toothbrush can store up to 20 brushing sessions that can be synced later.
The new connected toothbrush will be available in limited quantities in Germany starting spring, with a global rollout, including the SmartSeries, launching as of June 2014. The Oral-B App will be available in iOS in May, and in Android in August.

Sony STM10 stereo microphone
Sony launched an external microphone that allows users to get enhanced audio while capturing videos through their Sony smartphones and tablets.
According to Sony, the STM10 is a high sensitivity stereo condenser microphone that allows users to get enhanced sound for Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet while recording 4K videos.
It can be connected via the device’s 3.5mm headset jack, and pointed towards the main sound source while recording videos.
The device looks good with a shiny metal finish and comes with foam cover for noise reduction. Sony has not announced the price of the microphone. It is expected to be available with the Xperia Z2.
